OLC is a Roman Catholic Parish. The church is named in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary under her title as Our Lady of Czestochowa. The name comes from a city in Poland that is the site of a well known shrine dedicated to Mary, and is pronounced “Ches-to-HO-va.”
We normally refer to ourselves by the letters OLC – which is easier to pronounce and to remember. OLC can also stand for Our Lady’s Church. In fact, our parish motto is “Our Lady’s Church on the Waterfront,” describing both our community and our mission.
In recent years, OLC has become the neighborhood church of the Historic Paulus Hook District of Jersey City, NJ. Our parish is very diverse and inclusive, as is Jersey City, with parishioners of all ages from across the USA and the world.
Our faith community also includes people from outside our immediate area who are drawn by our warm and welcoming message as a parish. Our congregation includes non-Catholic Christians who feel spiritually enriched by our services and enjoy celebrating worship in their neighborhood.
OLC is part of the Archdiocese of Newark, NJ. The parish is staffed by priests of the Archdiocese and by dynamic lay and religious leaders who work hand-in-hand with the pastor.
