Baptism of Children
Baptism of Children at OLC Church
An infant’s baptism is a joyous occasion for the child’s family and for the family of the Church. Baptism celebrates the fact that God loves us so much that God calls us to have a special, personal relationship with Him — a relationship so close that God claims us as His own and gives us the privilege of calling Him “Our Father!”
Just as the birth of a child leads parents to reflect on the gift of human life, so the baptism of a child leads parents, and the whole parish, to reflect on this sacrament and what it means to be a part of God’s Church. As parents reflect upon the meaning of their child’s baptism, the parish community also welcomes these children into a life of grace.
Baptism preparation at OLC gives parents and godparents an opportunity to more fully understand the meaning of the sacrament of baptism in their own life. Baptism is not only something we receive, but also a way of living, a vision of life, a relationship with Jesus, and a relationship with God’s Church.
